The Guidance team are actively involved with pupil SUPPORT before the pupils in their
house transfer from P7 to S1, until they leave Banchory Academy. In fact support
is often required beyond school when former pupils require references to support
All P7 classes are visited by at least one of the Guidance Staff prior to Link Week
to give an overview of the week, organisation of the Academy and to answer pupil
queries. Transition meetings are held for a small number of pupils, attended by
the relevant Guidance Teacher, the Depute Head with responsibility for pupil support,
Principal Teacher of Learning Support and parents prior to link week. Parents will
be advised at these meetings if their child has been recommended for the Transition
Support programme provided by the Behaviour Support teacher.
Pupils should be confident that any personal issues discussed with a Guidance teacher
(or any teacher) will be treated in confidence. Where the PT Guidance believes additional
support or the involvement of outside agencies is required, appropriate personnel
will be contacted.
All of the guidance team have been trained in Child Protection procedures and the
designated child protection member of staff responsible for co-ordinating action
on child abuse is the school Headteacher.
The Guidance staff have an important role to play in promoting the school’s anti-bulling
policy as they raise pupil’s awareness in PSE classes and are usually the first point
of contact for the victims of bullying.... more
